Parental Responsibility & Time Sharing

The most difficult issues to deal with involving children are parental responsibility and time-sharing.  Since a child should have a good relationship with both parents even after their relationship has ended, the courts will always act in the best interest of the child.

Fortunately, in some instances, parents are able to settle their differences without litigation.  work through their disagreements through a mediation process. Unfortunately, this is not always the case and sometimes their battles lead to long, difficult, and emotionally charged litigation. When differences cannot be resolved, the Judge will make the final decision.

Once the time-sharing issue is resolved, there must be an agreement called a parenting plan in place which is acceptable to parents, and yet flexible enough to meet the needs of the child. Children should have a warm and loving relationship with both parents and the goal should always be to ensure the child’s relationship with one parent is not harmed simply because they no longer share the same household.
